Jio makes a spectacular market debut, wrapping the day 27% higher than its issue price

Jio Platforms staged a blockbuster market debut on Wednesday, with the stock closing its first trading day 26.81 per cent higher than its initial public offer (IPO) price.
The mega Rs 30,213-crore issue listed at an impressive 21.36 per cent premium, opening at Rs 1,358 against an issue price of Rs 1,119 per share.
Strong buying momentum pushed the Jio shares to a closing high of nearly 27 per cent at Rs 1,419 on both NSE and BSE.
The robust listing placed the telecom giant as India’s second-most valuable listed company with a market capitalisation (m-cap) of Rs 13.05 lakh crore, just behind its parent Reliance Industries’ (RIL) Rs 15.68-lakh crore m-cap.
Jio Platforms is India’s largest-ever IPO, raising a record-breaking Rs 30,213 crore, followed by Hyundai Motor India which had mopped up Rs 27,858.75 crore in 2024.
The Jio issue was subscribed 22.19 times, attracting more than 1.34 crore applications and reflecting strong investor appetite for the company’s telecom and digital businesses.
It was fully subscribed within 100 minutes of opening, making it the fastest-subscribed mega IPO in India.
The strong response followed the company’s position across mobile connectivity, broadband, digital entertainment, cloud services and enterprise technology, giving investors exposure to a broad range of India’s digital economy.
